IT’S TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

An opportunity has come up that we have chosen to take advantage of and have decided that it’s time for us to close the store and retire.    Abbott Shoe has had a long run.   Our founder, Mel Ross, started what became Abbott Shoe in the old factory on Route 62 back in the 1960’s.  We have been selling shoes in North Reading for nearly 60 years.  First in the old factory, then on Bow Street, Washington Street, the Atlantic Plaza, and lastly our final home, here at 254 Main Street.  Through the years, we have truly appreciated our loyal customers, and have loved the fact that we have seen many generations join us.  We will also miss not having more time with the new Abbott friends we’ve made.

From the earliest days of piles of shoes, one here and one over there, when we weren’t even considered a “real” shoe store. To the present, where we are one of only a handful of real shoe stores left who understand the art of fitting and selling shoes.

It has been our pleasure to service you.  To put on your baby’s first walking shoe:  to help you with shoes for that special occasion: to help you convalesce from foot surgery; to sell you a great pair of walking shoes for your dream vacation.   We have been there for you through all the stages of your life, an honor we have always taken seriously.

Yes, our time has come to retire.  Now we will be able to spend more time with our grandchildren.  Maybe see a soccer game, or a swim meet, things we were unable to do with our own kids.  We don’t want to miss another treasured moment.

OUR MOST SINCERE THANKS TO YOU ALL.  BETH AND LEE
